WORK ON THE NEW BYRON BAY SKATEPARK HAS STARTED
Today the council started preparing the site at Sandhills and this includes the removal of some vegetation.
As part of the project the council is removing 28 native trees and shrubs as well as a large number of invasive trees and plants.
Wherever possible they have avoided removing native trees – we know how valued they are by the community. The removal of the invasive plants will in fact benefit the surrounding native vegetation and birds and animals.
The project includes a bush regeneration campaign in the precinct with the focus on restoring and improving native vegetation.
The tree removal is being done as part of a vegetation management plan for the area that takes into account the flying fox camp and monitors are onsite.

The old (and rough) bowl has now been removed and the site is ready for the second phase of the redevelopment with a drainage system being installed this week.

The drainage system is almost done, some of the rails and coping have arrived.
